The new capital city of Gandhinagar of Gujarat state was declared in the year 1960; but the actual execution of the township was started in the year 1964. The total area of Gandhinagar city is 57.38 sq.km.; out of which, the planned area is 42.88 sq.km. The city is planned on grid-iron pattern and is divided into 30 sectors. The residential sectors are 1000 m x 750 m i.e. 75 hectares each. Our firm was appointed to develop storm water drainage system for 22 villages of GUDA covering 26.3 sq.km Area located on Western Side of Sabarmati river; which are developing very fast and for the majority of this area, town-planning schemes / development plans are already prepared and / or under finalization. The purpose of providing storm water drains is to carry over the rainfall runoff (flood water) from the developed area; so that the occurrence of flooding reduced to the acceptable frequencies. Therefore, the storm water drains are designed according to the extent and type of tributary area to be drained and must be based on the intensities of the rainfall of that area.
