The Narmada Dam Project is a multipurpose dam project involving the construction of a series of large hydroelectric dams on the Narmada River in India. The project took form in 1979 as part of a development scheme to increase irrigation and produce hydroelectricity. MMCPL was given the task of planning the canal network for :
43049 Ha CA of Miyagam Canal near Vadodara district of Gujarat.
15000 Ha CA of Sanand Branch Canal in Ahmedabad District of Gujarat.
MMCPL carried out the surveys for canal alignment and command area of distributaries and minors of Sardar Sarovar Project consisting of planning and designing of the canal distribution system from distributory down to chak of about 40 Ha size. MMCPL engineers designed and estimated the canal structures like VRB, syphons, cross regulators, falls head regulators, division box, survey and planning, creating the design for the internal drainage system with branch collecting drains and existing drains with structures inclding preparation of plan and estimates. It prepared the LAQ proposals from L-section of canals, thus preparing permanent benchmarks.

PROJECT OUTCOME :

MMCPL carried out all functions of the work successfully including having optional solutions for providing an efficient canal distribution and drainage network. It presented the plans for equitable and timely supply of water at appropriate intervals. All the works were carried out efficiently and the project was completed in 15 months instead of 18 months. The Sardar Sarovar Project has provided flood protection, better power supply, irrigation facilities and drinking water supply in the dry and arid regions of Western India.
